Dr. Rigzin Tundup is de locale traditionele Tibetaanse amchi oftewel dokter van de Nubra vallei. Hij is de voorzitter van de Lha-Rje Sorig Foundation in Sumur, in het district Ladakh in noordwest India met als doel een kliniek te openen voor de gehele bevolking, plm. 5000 mensen wonend in 40 dorpen in een gedeelte van de Nubra vallei.
Sinds 1989 praktiseert hij in deze regio (zijn geboortestreek), na 6 jaar studie en 4 jaar praktijkstage bij de Deky Khang Kar Tibetan Medical Instute van Dharamsala, het enige door de overheid erkende opleidingsinstituut voor de Tibetaanse geneeswijze.
Dr. Rigzin werkt samen met locale gezondheidsorganisaties en stelt hij zijn jeep, 'de mobiele kliniek' ter beschikking voor het vervoer van specialisten naar afgelegen gebieden om vaccinaties en staaroperaties uit te voeren, waarbij hij intermedieert. Daarnaast vervoert hij de ernstige zieken naar het grote streekziekenhuis in Deskit of Leh.

Werkwijze:

De Tibetaanse geneeswijze begon zijn ontwikkeling in de twaalfde eeuw en werkt hoofdzakelijk met kruidenextracten, kauwpillen en poeders of crème die vervaardigd zijn van kruiden en planten uit de bergen. Samen met twee assistenten verzamelt Dr. Rigzin zelf de kruiden (blaadjes en stelen) in augustus, hierbij oplettend dat de wortels van de plant behouden blijven voor verdere groei. De verzamelde kruiden worden verwerkt tot medicijnen in Dharamsala, een deel van de opbrengst krijgt hij terug voor gebruik in zijn eigen praktijk.
Om de mensen te bereiken trekt hij volgens een vast schema met 'de mobiele kliniek' naar verschillende dorpen. Één van de dorpelingen heeft zijn huis beschikbaar gesteld, waar de patiënten zich hebben verzameld voor consultatie en een eventuele directe behandeling. De patiënten zijn meestal locale boeren, die onder de armoede grens leven en betalen in natura, de rijkere boeren geven financiële vergoeding. Grotendeels leeft Dr. Rigzin van het inkomen van zijn echtgenote, lerares op een gouvernementele school.

Doel:

Thans trekt de dokter door de vallei wat veel tijd vergt, waardoor hij vaak onbereikbaar is voor andere patiënten. Hij wil de medische zorg concentreren in zijn dorp en tevens van de kliniek een advies- en voorlichtingscentrum maken, zowel op medisch gebied als agrarisch en hygiënische voorlichting geven. In deze kliniek wil hij zelf de kruidenpillen fabriceren en hier locale bevolking in op te leiden en werk te verschaffen.

De stichting Hulp aan Nubra heeft via allerlei acties de financieën voor de bouw van deze kliniek bijeengebracht. Een assistente zal dokter Rigzin bijstaan als zij haar studie Tibetaanse geneeswijzen in Dharamsala heeft afgerond. Zodat er altijd iemand aanwezig is in de kliniek als hij er niet is.

Op dit moment zijn de werkzaamheden om de kliniek af te bouwen in volle gang. Er is hout voor 2 van de 6 vloeren, en de binnenmuren kunnen worden afgepleisterd. De elektriciteit wordt aangelegd, het schilderwerk gedaan en de badruimte geinstalleerd. De officiele openingsceremonie zal eind juli plaatsvinden.

Wanneer het volgende project van de Lha-Rje-Sorig foundation financieel is goedgekeurd, zal de stichting Hulp aan Nubra dit ook ondersteunen door middel van fondsenwerving. Dit volgende project omvat het aanleggen, cultiveren en verbouwen van medicinale planten en kruiden. En deze te verwerken tot medicijnen. Met dit kruiden project kan de Lha-Rje-Sorig foundation werkgelegenheid creeren en tevens een bron van inkomsten krijgen. Voor ondersteuning van dit kruiden project zijn reeds contacten gelegd met Simavi.

Dear Ton and Mar.

Thank you very much for timely sending the money which I have received on 27th Apr and also thanks for the letter of 21st Apr. Now I am very busy in collecting the finishing materials of our clinic building.Therefore, I used to stay in Nubra most of the time. So far I collected cement, sand for plaster, wooden flooring materials. At this time I engaged only few labours for leveling work of the premises. These days labour charges are very expensive because of the closure of Srinagar-Leh highway. This will be opened in few days and after that the labours in large number will start to come here and I will engage them on cheaper charges.

As I already told you that the inaugural ceremony of our clinic will be a grand one. To make it more successful, I want to have the inauguration after your treking program so that I could get more time for the arrangements. Secondly all the necessary works at the clinic could be completed before the inauguration. If you feel better to have the inauguration before the treking, please discuss with Mariella and let me know at the earliest posible. You also wanted to know the expenditure of the inauguration ceremony, Yes all the home products like chhang,vegetables etc will be arranged by my parent free of cost. But the Foundation will have to bear the food cost and other expenditure of about Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 for atleast 1500 people who will participate in the inauguration. Therefore the inauguration will be more arrangeable after the treking. One important thing is to invite a representative from Muttathara on the occasion of inauguration.So please request Muttathara for this. This is also important for the future of the Lharje Sorig Foundation and also The Muttathara has made a huge financial support in formation of our Foundation.We hope the inauguration will be a big successful. I think we will fix the inaugural day on your arrival in Leh.The cash book of our Foundation is well maintained. I glad to know that Rotary Club has reserved the money for the water pumping system. I would like to know how much money they reserved for the pump. Because a private agency who working in ladakh on water pumping for Govt: is charging Rs:1,00,000 to Rs 1,25,000 ( depend on surface position). If Rotery do nor agree to pay the full cost then I will take up the case with Ladakh Development Council to bear the rest of the cost.

About treking ,I had been to Samphels house 10 days back, but at present he is on a long treking and will be back in Leh on 25th of this month. To finalise the treking program, I will come back to Leh on 26th and after meetimnh with him, I will inform you on e.mail. As you know that the time is coming closer for every thing and we do not have much time to communicate by letters. You have mentioned about the good collection of money for our Foundation. Thank both of you for the restless efforts. Now our dream of Poly Clinic is coming nearer and nearer.

Yes I have received Rs:1,66.632 through all the 3 bank accounts. At present some more monay is required for the finishing work.I suggest you to send arround Rs:1,00,000 to meet the important expenditure i.e.Rs:30,000 to 35,000 in the bank accounts of myself,Dolker and Angdus. Till the whole money is received, I can take the finishinh items like painting, electric, bathroom and other furnishing material on credit basis for 3-4 months. You can send the money for liabilities after finishing the Ladakh tour. As you know that sending much money in a particular account is objectionable to Law.

You also mentioned about Simavis interest in herb cultivation. That is a great news for us. I will contact Mr.Utrera of Simavi with information for further needful and also send you the xerox copy of the same. But one thing is clear that without your support we can not do any thing. So please keep contact with the Simavi.The FCRA of our Foundation is likely to complete within one month. The Registration of the Foundation is already completed under Indian constitution. The estimation of the land development, fencing, water pumping engine and distributories are going on through a Govt Agency called the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology(SKUAST) Leh.

Diskit coming back to India on 29th .One letter received from her and also received a telephone call.She stated that she getting bore in France.She will again rink you up before her departure from France.

Please reply on e.mail by 26th of this month.As per your direction, we have sent the thanks letter to Mr.Ploeg of Muttathara on 15th Apr.

Voor de bouw van de kliniek is er terrein beschikbaar gesteld door de locale bevolking. De fundering is in september 2000 gereed gekomen.
In de afgelopen winter heeft een locale timmerman ramen en deuren gemaakt. Stenen en hout zijn verzameld, maar de bouw ligt 's winters stil vanwege het klimaat.
De stichting 'Hulp aan Nubra', Dhr en Mw. Klooster, hebben de financiën voor de bouw bijeen gebracht.

ONDERSTEUNENDE ORGANISATIE

Stichting Castricum helpt Muttathara, Castricum:
- In 1998 hebben zij gelden beschikbaar gesteld voor de aanschaf van de jeep.
- In november 2000 een forse donatie voor de bouw van de kliniek.
NCDO, Nationale Comité voor internationale samenwerking en Duurzame Ontwikkeling, Amsterdam.
- In februari 2001 hebben ze een donatie toegekend, de ontbrekende gelden voor de bouw.
